A common complaint for custom levels is that there’s too many of the same artists or same genres. Let’s fix that.
There’s a ton of underrated tracks out there that are perfectly okay to use in levels, with artists and/or types of music that custom levels could use more of. We had a thread for this before in the VG Discord, but the PA Forum channel got removed there, so let’s fill this one with tracks and artists the workshop needs more of.
Remember to stick to artists and songs we’re allowed to use - the whole point is people making levels with these, after all!
My own recommendations to start out with:
Artists:
- Femtanyl: I admittedly haven’t listened to enough femtanyl music, but from what I have heard, it would lead to some super unique levels and it’s a crime nobody has used it yet.
- Calavera: Super underrated chiptune artist who anyone that’s a fan of established ones in the community could get into.
- MYUKKE.: Future bass artist already popular in other rhythm games (only use songs with downloads!)
- Dance with the Dead: They’ve got a lot of synthwave with a style that there’s not much levels for.
Songs:
- Impostor Syndrone by Shirobon and FrankMusik: This is one of Shirobon’s more lyrical tracks, and it’s way more pop-sounding than most custom levels but still has a familiar artist. Would be a perfect gateway to more unique music.
