AB Points: What should they do?

The next big update introduces the concept of AB points they’re basically just for bragging rights atm, as they have their own leaderboard, and are got via playing custom levels (the plan is to give you a ton for finishing story as well).

Ideas?

Expect them to appear in game probably at the beginning of next month. With the arcade overhaul.

Just like what MotionIII said in discord, it would be cool to add back the old songs and maybe themes by unlocking them

I miss the old menu songs

You should try adding cosmetics and the ability to change our shape, since some levels usually have multiplayer colors the same (mostly white) and it would be great if we had ways to change our shape, about the cosmetics you should do community cosmetics (namesake) where we (the community) will make our own cosmetics BUT there should be approval because there can be scenarios where people will make inappropriate cosmetics

My idea is, points can be spent to buy completely optional and visual accessories, what are they?

  1. Titles: You can buy titles in the main meny through a secret shop, that will be displayed on your custom level (the thing that says: Charted By: [title] [name]).
  2. Nanobot Accessories: Another shop where you can buy completely visual accessories for your nanobot, something like wings or cat ears, there will be a discord channel where you can make your own accessory and then the community votes for the best to get into the game! Bonus: you can also change the shape of your nanobot (example: circle or triangle) for free!

Edit: Forgot to add: Titles can be made by the community too, and following the same democracy with the accessories, the community will vote for them too! Also, if you save up Like, a lot of P, you can make your own title and a moderator can approve it and it will be given to YOU, and ONLY YOU!

they could unlock those menu themes that were removed a while ago or maybe ui color palletes that also apply in the editor

Aside from the stuff everyone’s already said, maybe you could also buy shaders that can be applied to the nanobot? Or maybe even effects that happen when you dash/get hit/die?

I like the hit/death effects suggestion!

Get a Story mode level in the editor, for players wanting to know how each level was made

Steam trading cards? I don’t know if the game grants them or if Steam does but could be an idea

That’s actually one i’ve not seen suggested interesting…

AFAIK Steam does? But someone should correct me if I’m wrong.

It wouldn’t quite be the same theme stuff as that would be a lot of work but the music for sure could be a fun easy add.

  • Unlocking parts of an in-game art gallery (think concept art) or lore documents. I’m assuming the latter might already be unlocked some way else in Story Mode though
  • I really like the idea of titles and more “profile customization” type stuff. Think of what vivid/stasis and other rhythm games do for that. Though obviously making it show to other players mignt be more work than worth it.

Tangential idea, but what if you could get custom icons for things like Discord integration, hmmmm.

I think it’d be cute but it has potential to be annoying for people not using Discord. Though maybe there’s other places the icon could be customized too, it’s just important the reward doesn’t feel worthless to people

[Edited bc I misread the initial post]

  • Nanobot Cosmetics
    • This has already been suggested a few times, but it seems like the most reasonable idea.
    • Cosmetics would probably be two-toned, using the player color and tail color.
    • These could be anything from changing the shape of the player to little hats or perhaps trails (?).
    • For local multiplayer, the other players start off as default nanobots but can pick from whatever cosmetics you’ve purchased.
  • Modifiers
    • Unlockable, purchasable modifiers for playing levels!
    • Modifiers could be anything, but here are some random ideas I came up with:
      • Making the nanobot (and it’s hitbox) bigger
      • Putting a spotlight around the player, limiting vision to a small area around the nanobot
      • Cosmic clone nanobots? (Evil nanobots that copy your movement with a delay and deal damage on contact, like Mario Galaxy or Celeste)
    • Modifiers could even change the amount of points you get for beating a level with them idk
